It's a bisannual medicinal herb of Apiaceae botanical family. It is also called Garden Angelica, Archangel and Root of the Holy Ghost. It has for centuries been an important food source, especially in Scandinavian countries. During the Middle Ages the root of the plant was believed to treat the plague.


Medicinal properties :

Angelica is used for heartburn, acid reflux, intestinal gas, anorexia, arthritis, menstrual disorders, dementia, nervoussness, anxiety and insomnia.

Special precautions :

Angelica makes your skin more sensitive to sunlight. Moreover, it's better not to use it 

  • during pregnancy, especially the first six months because it can cause uterine contractions. 
  • in case of diabete because it is hypoglycaemic
  • when the body is too weak
  • in case of hormone-dependent cancer because it has an oestrogen-like effect
